SUMMARY

The Colonel's House occupies a most stunning position, set on the edge of Muirfield one of Scotland’s top golf courses which has hosted the British Open no less than 15 times. Set back from a private road (shielded by high hedges) it has ample private parking and a front lawned garden. To the rear of the property is a secluded mature garden and terrace in which to relax and unwind.

It has to be the perfect venue for a golfing party wishing to sample the full spectrum of Scottish Golf at its very best with ten golf courses, including four championship courses. Gullane Golf Courses are less than 2 miles and North Berwick Golf Club is within 5 miles.

East Lothian has often been called a golfer’s paradise. The region's microclimate ensures more playable days than elsewhere in Scotland. Most of East Lothian's golf courses are traditional Scottish links style with undulating fairways, hidden bunkers, gorse and heather lining the fairways.

ACCOMMODATION

The ground floor accommodation comprises a charming large sitting room with dining area, fireplace with gas effect fire and French windows opening on to the private garden and terrace. There is also a cosy study with telephone, WiFi & satellite TV. A drinks tray may be provided in the study via the housekeeper.

Kitchen facilities for those preferring to self-cater include a range style cooker with double ovens, grill and gas hob, fridge and kettle plus cutlery, crockery and basic cooking utensils. If required breakfast can be arranged to be taken in the main hotel dining room.

The four good-sized bedrooms are comfortably furnished and each has its own bathroom. The two ground floor bedrooms both have twin beds (which can be zipped to form a double bed). One bedroom has a small en-suite shower room; whilst the other has a large bathroom next door. To the first floor is a large master bedroom with either a twin/double bed and en-suite bath. Also, on the same landing is a very large twin/double bedroom with bathroom nearby.

SITUATION

Situated within just a short walking distance is the renowned Greywalls Hotel and Resturant which overlooks the 9th green and the 10th tee of the Muirfield golf course. Here you will experience fine dining at Chex Roux under the guidance Chef Albert Roux OBE, KFO head of the famous cooking dynasty behind such establishments as Le Gavroche which was the first ever restaurant in the UK to be awarded three Michelin Stars.

The scenic surrounding East Lothian countyside with its rolling fields to the Lammermuir Hills, stunning beaches, castles and so much more to explore. Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh is a mere 30 minutes via car or train.

From Edinburgh City Centre to Greywalls

From the east end of Princess Street (Balmoral Hotel), follow the signs for the A1 to Berwick-upon-Tweed. When you leave the city it will become a dual carriage way. Follow this for about 8 miles until you reach the ‘Bankton’ slip road, then follow signs for North Berwick. Go straight over the first roundabout, then at the next roundabout turn right onto the A198 which you then follow into the village of Gullane.

Greywalls is located at the far end of the village, turning left where signposted. Colonels House is situated on the left hand side.

From the North via the Forth Road Bridge

Follow the M90 South to Edinburgh crossing over the Forth Road Bridge. On leaving the Bridge follow signs for the A800, which then becomes the M9 (signposted to M8 Glasgow/Edinburgh).
Join the M8 at Junction 2, heading East towards Edinburgh. At Hermiston Gait, join the City Bypass (A720), following the signs for Berwick-upon-Tweed and the South.
Stay on the A720 until it joins the A1, then take the A1, still following the signs for Berwick-upon-Tweed. At the Bankton junction, take the A198 which is signposted to North Berwick. Stay on the A198, through Longniddry, along the coast to Aberlady and into the village of Gullane. At the far end of the village, take the last turning on the left (signposted Greywalls at the road-end). Colonels House is situated on the left hand side.
