SUMMARY

Originally dating from 1703, this listed stone house lay unloved and empty for a number of years, until the current owners rescued it in 2012 and began the huge task of sympathetic restoration. Today the house is testament to their sheer dedication and hard work, and now you can experience a unique blend of old and new design by staying in this exclusive use historic building.

The magic of The Old Millhouse is the way the owner has cleverly hand-picked every element of the house interior using original raw materials such as stone and wood to echo its heritage yet with a contemporary, luxurious finish it still retains a traditional, country-house feel.

Furnished with family antique heirlooms and new design reflects this balance, superb textiles, rugs to paintings and ceramics: the elegant style fuses a classic British look with a hint of the colonial and Far East, and it’s one of the things that makes The Old Millhouse so special.

ACCOMMODATION

The ground floor is where the magnificent sun room is located: with glass on three sides it’s the ideal place to enjoy the stunning garden view.
The impressive fireplace, sofas you can sink into, and a dining table seating ten make this the hub of the house.

Wi-Fi throughout and a Sonos music system are provided for guest use.

A sleek and professional-standard kitchen with breakfast bar has all the appliances you’d expect including a fantastic induction Rangemaster and two additional electric ovens, plus all the gadgets for a fully-equipped contemporary kitchen, including Italian-style coffee maker and American-style fridge with plenty of space for chilling your favourite bottles of wine and will be stocked for your visit – not just with the staples such as bread, butter, milk and soft drinks, plenty of ice and fresh fruit, but treats from the local deli such as cold meats and cheeses. This means there’s always the makings of a snack or light meal when you arrive. And not forgetting the freshest of fresh eggs from the gardens wandering hens!

If you don’t feel like cooking, and fancy some special cossetting and entertaining, then why not contact Concierge to arrange a private chef experience and relax while they prepare a fantastic evening meal in the comfort of this luxury retreat.

There is a cosy den with its own bar making a super laid-back hideaway for enjoying a dram!
You will find that an honesty bar is operated at the property, with whisky, brandy and a selection of other spirits, including delicious, award-winning local gins: NB Gin and Edinburgh Gin, whisky from local distillery Glenkinchie, along with wines and beers available for you to enjoy.

Upstairs can be found a beautiful drawing room with working fireplace and cleverly hidden wall-mounted TV just the loveliest place to relax and watch a movie or the big match, with its window seats and sumptuous fabrics including Indian silks and linens.

The five bedrooms (three doubles, two twins) are on the first and second floors and all have en-suite bath or shower rooms with underfloor-heating. Each of the bedrooms have top quality beds and are bedecked in fine linens and the fluffy duvets and pillows ensure a blissful night’s sleep.
Little touches such as bathrobes, slippers, and Arran Aromatics toiletries provide that boutique hotel feel.

The soothing sounds of the river makes it hard to believe you are just 8 miles from Edinburgh city centre, and as you wander the woodland and banks of the South Esk, the wonderful variety of trees means birdsong is never far away. And depending on the season, the river bank is scattered with snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells.

During the summer months, throw open the doors and enjoy time out on the sweeping green lawns which are perfect for a game of croquet or just relaxing with a book, while the stone terrace is the place to enjoy breakfasts al fresco with the newspapers before planning the day’s activities and will then benefit from the evening sun and a breath-taking view, to partake in a sundowner or pre-dinner drinks!

The Old Millhouse is brimming with character and charm, fantastically located in such a beautiful setting, it really is a wonderfully private and secure luxury holiday home which provides the warmest of welcomes.
